Deciding on the proper electronic display for your application is the most critical part of your planning process. MVS’ goal is
to assist you in making the right decision so that you can communicate your message effectively, maximize your visibility and
maximize your return on investment.

Indoor or outdoor?
Many “families” of products are available for both indoor and outdoor applications. Indoor displays are generally less bright and less expensive than outdoor displays. A window display, however, is generally brighter than standard indoor displays.

Application / type of message
Every application, business and user has different communication requirements. Think of what your typical message might be. What word or words are most important? How many characters are in that most important word or phrase? That will help to determine the width of your display.

Minimum number of lines (at a given time)
How many lines will be enough? While bigger may seem better when planning an LED display, budget is always a reality. MVS experts can help you plan your messaging and suggest appropriate display sizes and designs.

Viewing distance
This is crucial. If your display is located on a 65 MPH highway, will drivers see it from 1,000 ft? If it’s in a residential area, how close will the pedestrians be? How much time will drivers have to read your message? These factors will have a significant impact on the resolution as well as additional characteristics of your display. More importantly, the location of your display in relation to your audience is what helps determine the proper viewing angle of the LED used in manufacturing. MVS’ team of experts can help you answer these questions and more.

Overall size
Do you have a specific size requirement for your display? In some situations, you may have an existing structure to work within; in other cases there may be none. Ultimately, this factors into the number of lines, number of characters per line and cost of the display.

Display structure
The overall structure around your display may take many forms. It may be in the ground, on a pole, built within an exiting structure, or it may be 85 feet in the air.

Color
Electronic displays are available in a variety of colors. Red is the most common and therefore the least expensive. Amber is next, then Green and Blue. RGB is full color.

Graphics
The use of graphics and animation depends on your application requirement and budget. Video displays in Times Square, for example, require a tight resolution so the graphics will be appealing. Alternatively, two-line displays on the highway will be bold and strictly text. A school application or electronic community board may only use basic animation for holidays or special events.

Connectivity
A number of alternatives exist for communicating with electronic displays. Some locations may be appropriate for hard wiring while others may consider going wireless. Some may need to be used with an existing Ethernet network, or fiber optic cabling may be desirable. Other installations may need to be programmed far from the display so a phone line and modem would be appropriate. All of these options are available and practical.

Live feed of news, sports or financial information
As an exciting option, MVS offers a complete solution for bringing the content that you desire to your electronic display. In all environments, electronic displays are effective and functional. The simple motion of your changing and/or streaming information attracts attention and readers. Current information holds their attention. Whether you prefer just the news or you want to add customized messages in between the broadcast, you can do it! See MVS Solutions for more information.

Additional factors affecting the selection of your display
Additional considerations which are critical in planning your display include: selecting the proper software package; evaluating
various financing options; and determining zoning and permitting. MVS experts are experienced, capable and ready to help you.
